In a music industry where the business often trumps the art, New York City-based folk-pop singer, visual artist and dedicated activist Rachael Sage remains a potent voice for human rights. Sage has officially premiered the deeply moving and visually stunning music video for “Nexus (Acoustic)” with her long-time band The Sequins. This bare-bones, elemental re-imagining breathes profound new life into the fan-beloved track from her October 2025 studio album, Canopy. The single is a stunning preview of her upcoming acoustic record, Under My Canopy, due out later this year on MPress/Universal.
A Timeless Anthem Born from Collective Heartbreak
The original single ‘Nexus’ was released before ‘Canopy’ and all profits went to The Trevor Project, the leading LGBTQ+ mental health and suicide prevention organisation. ‘Nexus’ is a sobering but ultimately hopeful anthem for inclusivity, empathy and collective resilience, written as a tribute to Nex Benedict, the nonbinary student who died after being violently beaten by school peers. That same poignant message is brought to life in the music video, directed with extraordinary intimacy and warmth by award-winning documentary filmmaker Nick Clark.

Rachael Sage’s artistic depth is supported by an incredibly decorated career. Sage is a six-time Independent Music Award winning producer, John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize winner and former New York City Ballet dancer who has performed thousands of shows across the globe with the likes of Rufus Wainwright, Judy Collins and Wet Wet Wet. Recently, she became the first official ambassador for Rainbow Mind, an LGBTQ+ mental health charity, and has launched a “Take In The Good” merchandise campaign to raise funds for community-led support for queer youth.
Rachael Sage’s next project is guided by the song “Nexus (Acoustic),” which is far more than just a lovely folk-pop song. She provides a vital sanctuary where mourning transforms into survival, demonstrating that the best way to combat hate is to stand together and raise our collective voices to shift the cultural tide.
