Originally from the DMV and currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina, Hevewae’s expressive style captures his upbringing, hardships, and unwavering faith. He recorded his first song at the age of 14 with a member of the legendary band EU, influenced by Go-Go icon Fat Rodney and Houston’s Scarface. Hev-e-wae The Underground Beast, his self-produced debut CD, Bammas Don’t Know, marked the next step in his journey.
Hevewae defied expectations with unparalleled tenacity, embracing his identity as a Special Ed artist despite being born hearing-impaired and mildly speech-impaired. He helped start a movement that is still going strong today and was a visionary who co-founded the term “DMV” for the Greater Washington music scene. His writing is versatile and transcends boundaries, influenced by everything from Redman and gospel to Chuck Brown and Billie Holiday.
