A$hdollasign, a rising star in the music industry, recently opened up about his musical journey, influences, and aspirations in an exclusive interview. Born and raised in a challenging neighborhood, his path to music was anything but conventional.
Could you delve into your early experiences with music, including any significant influences or moments that motivated you to pursue a career in the music industry?
“To be honest, it all started with the school choir,” A$hdollasign says, introducing his musical background. “I knew I wanted to pursue music, but I didn’t know how to.” A$hdollasign encountered many challenges as a child in an unfavorable environment, which constrained his ability to express his own creativity. In spite of all of this, he took comfort and inspiration from his mother’s poetry exchanges and rhyme games when she was incarcerated. “Eventually, I found a way to express my feelings through rhyme and rhythm,” he says. “During my sixth-grade year, I came to the idea that I ought to share it with others.
Can you elaborate on how you define your musical style and the diverse range of genres you explore in your songs? Additionally, could you discuss the underlying themes and influences that shape your music?
A$hdollasign starts off by stating, “I don’t like to be boxed into one specific genre,” highlighting his varied taste in music. “I make a lot of different types of music.” He admits that from the start of his career, the public has mostly heard hip-hop/rap songs with a Southern influence from him, but he also shares that he has a vast catalog of unpublished songs that cover a wide range of genres, including hyperpop, alternative, heavy rock, indie, and R&B. “My fans can expect to see a lot of that in the future,” he says. A$hdollasign declares his dedication to his Southern rap heritage even though he has experimented with several styles.
Who have been your main musical influences throughout your life, and how have they shaped your style and the way your music has developed?
“From a young age, I was listening to Lil Wayne and Kevin Gates, so I was inevitably going to take inspiration from them,” A$hdollasign starts off by praising his early hip-hop/rap influences. But his taste in music goes far beyond rap. A$hdollasign declares that he adores rock music in all of its forms and makes an effort to include elements of it into his songs. He credits bands like Black Veil Brides, Metallica, Linkin Park, Green Day, and Sublime as having had a big influence on his sound and direction.
But out of all of his influences, A$hdollasign’s artistic journey has been most greatly influenced by the late XXXTentacion. “The most inspiration I take from anyone is probably XXXTentacion,” he says. “When I was in a dark place, his music was there like a spotlight.” Before the great artist’s untimely death, A$hdollasign got the exceptional chance to meet XXXTentacion early in his career, which solidified the significant impact the musician had on both his music and life.

A$hdollasign acknowledges that “The Hazard” and “Supreme SaV” challenged him and were essential to his growth as an artist. He gladly recognizes, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without either of them,” underscoring the significant impact mentors can have on an artist’s career and the significance of cooperation and direction in forming one’s artistic identity.
What are your short-term and long-term objectives for your musical career, and how do you envision your impact on the music industry as a whole?
