The Kabusa Oriental Choir dropped the trailer for Detty December on December 12, 2025. Detty December is our over-the-top take on Christmas in Nigeria—think Christmas, but amplified! The new song captures the spirit of the season. It’s the perfect jam for letting loose and having a blast.
Based in Nigeria’s capital, the Kabusa Oriental Choir is known for their choir versions of popular tunes. Austin Chinemezu Nwamara, the choir director, put the group together on March 11, 2019. Their first online content was a mashup of Kizz Daniel’s Yeba and DJ Spinal’s Baba. The cover took off online and put the choir on the map.
The idea for the choir came when Austin was in an Uber with a buddy after work at a law firm in Abuja. He joked with his friend about how Baba would sound if a Catholic choir sang it. He started singing it, and the whole car, including the driver, cracked up. His friend encouraged him to record it ASAP because it would be a hit. The next week, Austin found a studio and made it happen. They even shot a music video on a phone with the choir in robes. The video went live on Instagram and blew up. It was all over blogs and TV, and fans shared it like crazy on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. Nigerian Catholics loved it, and even Kizz Daniel and DJ Spinal gave them props. Celebrities and influencers like Don Jazzy also took notice.
Since then, the Kabusa Oriental Choir has grown from doing covers to writing their own songs. One example is The Corona Song, which Austin wrote to share info about the virus in 2020. Back in February 2020, they dropped Valentine is Coming, and it became a global smash. It’s still their biggest song. The track got attention, even making it to BBC 1XTRA RADIO in the UK during Valentine’s week. Now, the choir drops new verses to the song every year as a tradition.
